Film Industry Day is a specialized event for Mexico’s film industry organized every year, since 2008, within the Monterrey International Film Festival. This is a space to listen, learn, share and connect with professional filmmakers in Mexico and abroad, with the objective of supporting the industry’s development and promote opportunities for participants. It consists on a series of conferences, panels, workshops and the Festival’s largest party.
9:00 Inauguration
9:30 Conference: Camera and Staging of an Animated Film. Adrián Ochoa (Pixar)
The process of “staging” or mise en scene consists on the presentation of an idea in such a way that it becomes completely understandable, without any possibility of misinterpretations. For an idea to be transformed clearly onto a scene, the audience’s eye must be directed to the correct place at the precise moment. In this conference Adrián Ochoa will share his experiences on this process in Pixar studios.
11:00 Panel: The New Environment in Film Production in Mexico. Carlos Taibo (Hartos Indios), Jorge Sánchez Sosa (Fandango Films).
The environment of film production in Mexico changes continuously in response to multiple economic, technical, social and fiscal aspects. We cannot make films today the same as we did two, five or ten years ago. What are rules of the game and possibilities of winning in Mexico’s film industry?
Break
3:30 Panel: Animation: a new opportunity for Mexico’s cinema. / Pablo Baksht (Locoloco Films), Ricardo Gómez.
Animated films aren’t common territory for Mexican cinema. Only in 1973 was the first feature animated film in Mexico made. However, a series of companies and creative teams have recently bet on diverse animation techniques to produce films that are capturing a growing box-office participation every year. Mexico’s animated films seem to open the doors to a new field of opportunities.
5:00 Mini-workshops
Specialized workshops to develop specific abilities for audiovisual production that consist on small groups. The program will be available to enroll on Film Industry Day.
